Welcome to the Rotary Club of Navan Website.
CLUB PRESIDENT 2021-22; INTRODUCTION
The Rotary Club of Navan was founded in 1980 by Dr Michael Hayes. The purpose of this new Club was to provide support to the local community in need so as to improve their quality of life.
Rotary is an organisation which operates under the umbrella of Rotary Great Britain and Ireland, the objective is to encourage and foster the ideal of service to make a lasting positive change in their local and international communities.
The Rotary Club of Navan is comprised of a group of men and women from a variety of backgrounds who have a common mission to volunteer to work collectively for the local communities. The Club support local charitable services and projects through fundraising and collaboration.
The motto of Rotary is “Service Above Self”, and this year the Theme of Rotary is “Serve to Change Lives”. The work of our local Charities is commendable. and many people have benefited enormously form the extraordinary effort and time of those who work in respective much needed charities.
The Rotary Club of Navan is honoured to be part of this “Serve to Change Lives” theme, through supporting the local Charities and International Projects. The pleasure of witnessing the positive impact on the lives of those in need is immeasurable.
The Annual Fundraising events which the Club organises, nclude the Christmas Tree of Hope and Remembrance, the biggest fundraiser and synonymous with the Christmas Trees, adorned with yellow Ribbons inscribed with messages from the local people, in both Johnstown and Navan Shopping Centres. Other significant annual fundraiser events include the Cinema Night held in the Solstice and the Golf Classic which takes place in Tara Golf Club
The support of the Club is also extended to international projects for example, Bikes for Africa which collects used bikes in good condition that are repaired and transported to Africa. Distribution of these bikes has enabled school children in Gambia to travel to schools so they can access education and thus transform their lives. This project has been exceptionally successful for the Rotary Club of Navan due to the support from Meath County Council, with over 900 bikes delivered to Africa The Club also has supported Mercy Ships which are Hospital Ships that provide healthcare and access to surgery for people who live in poverty in areas where communities could not access any this essential service.
The current pandemic has impacted significantly on the Rotary local annual fundraising events as we all strive to adhere to Public Health Guidelines. However, the Rotary Club of Navan have continued to support local charities and international projects, as best it could in the current circumstances. The Club hope it will be in a position to return to some of our fundraising events in the coming year.
The Rotary Club of Navan also run Youth Services Projects in conjunction with the Secondary Schools in the catchment area. These Youth Services Projects include the Youth Leadership Development Competition, and this year the Club held the Inaugural Young Writer Competition. These projects run in collaboration with the local secondary schools who have been very supportive. The Youth Services projects are a terrific means by which students not only engage in a challenge, but also the projects provide a significant contribution towards the students skills and personal development for their future journeys.
I hope you will take some time to check the events and projects of the Rotary Club of Navan on the website. You might be interested in joining us at some of these events or indeed at our meetings.
Yours in Rotary
