Alan Nelson Rotary Club of Navan President 2025 - 2026
I am truly honoured to serve as President of the Rotary Club of Navan. My parents, Frank and Imelda, have a legacy in the furniture business, which has inspired my passion for craftsmanship. I’m also a dedicated sports enthusiast, cheering for Navan O'Mahony's, Meath, Leinster Rugby, Ireland Rugby, and my favourite team, Leeds United. Golf is another love of mine.
Growing up in Athlumney, I became familiar with the Rotary Treasure Hunt, thanks to my neighbour, John Nolan, who participated and was a former president of the Rotary Club. I had little understanding of Rotary until I joined, and it has truly transformed me. Through Rotary, I’ve met incredible people, both in Navan and beyond.
Our motto, "Service Above Self," resonates deeply with me. Helping those who are less fortunate brings a sense of fulfilment and joy. In Navan, we boast a vibrant club with events like our Golf Day, Theatre Night, and Kids Day Out, alongside our support for local institutions such as St. Mary’s Special School and St. Ultan’s Special School.
We’re proud of our Just 1 Life program, which focuses on transitional year students preparing to drive, and our Ladies Lunch, as well as our Christmas Tree of Remembrance, which supports various community and global initiatives. I’m fortunate to have the incredible Geraldine Honan as my secretary and Marie Mullooly as my treasurer and the support of over thirty fellow Rotarians in our Club.
Over the past seven years, we've successfully contributed to the Bikes for Africa project, sending 1,500 bikes to The Gambia. More recently, we've supported a fantastic initiative in Uganda, providing materials to create chairs for special needs children.
I am committed to making this a memorable year filled with fun and meaningful experiences for my fellow Rotarians, and to positively impact the lives of others Your ongoing support and encouragement is much appreciated
Alan Nelson
