CLUB PRESIDENT 2022-2023; INTRODUCTION
Rotary is an organisation that encourage and foster the ideal of service in order to make a lasting positive change in their local and international communities.
The Rotary Club of Navan forms part of Rotary International was founded in 1980 by Dr Michael Hayes. It comprises a group of men and women from a variety of backgrounds who socially meet weekly. Their motto “Service Above Self”, their mission is to work collectively using their knowledge and expertise for the benefit of their local communities and also supporting international Rotary projects. This is achieved through fundraising and collaboration with local and international charitable services and organisations.
Navan Rotary have several Fundraising events which the Club organises, Christmas Tree of Hope and Remembrance, the biggest fundraiser and synonymous with the Christmas Trees in Johnstown and Navan Shopping centres. Other significant annual fundraiser events include the Cinema Night held in the Solstice and the Golf Classic which takes place at the Tara Golf Club
The Club Support extends to international projects for example, Bikes for Africa which collects used bikes in good condition that are repaired and transported to Gambia for children to travel to schools so they can access education and thus transform their lives. This project has been exceptionally successful for the Rotary Club of Navan and has delivered over 1000 bikes .At present it is donating bikes to the Ukrainian Refugees.
The Rotary Club of Navan also run a very successful Youth Services Projects in conjunction with the Secondary Schools in the catchment area. These Youth Services Projects include a very successful Youth Leadership Development Competition. The projects provide a significant contribution towards the student’s skills and personal development for their future journeys.
The current pandemic has impacted significantly on the Rotary Club of Navan activities. Social Interaction and local annual fundraising events were reduced. Despite adversity, Navan Rotarians through very hard work and sheer determination kept the Club alive and managed to achieve a very successful fund-raising and youth project year.
With the current world events, the future looks very uncertain for a lot of people who fear destitution. Never at any time support provided organisations such as Rotary will be needed by our communities.
I am hoping during the coming year and with help all our members to steer the Club towards normality. It will take a great deal of goodwill determination and in the process, we can return to all the lovely social events we have missed in the last three years. We hope to be able to belatedly and deservedly celebrate our Club 40th year and in the process the success of generations of hard-working Rotarians that have gone before us.
Yours in Rotary.
Dr Amin Louli
