This is a very positive and engaging competition which the Rotary Club of Navan has been asked to participate in. The Rotary National Young Writer Competition is a well established competition promoted by Rotary International, Great Britain and Ireland and which unleashes the laudable writing talent of the young students
In the current circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, students have confronted unprecedented challenges which can generate underlying anxiety. By focusing on the things that bring happiness into their lives leads to positive feelings which in turn contributes to their overall sense of well-being.
So, this is a very fitting competition for this pandemic as the theme focuses on being HAPPY.....
General Procedure of the Competition
The Young Writer Competition competes at three levels: Local Club Level, District Level and at National Level.
The aim of the Young Writer Competition is to encourage the Writing skill with Imagination and Creativity.
The Task is to write a story in prose, titled "My Happiest Day" in prose or poetry and can be fiction or nonfiction. This work can be written or typed and must be legible.
The age band for students who will be in the Senior Category of the Competition; 14-17years old. The students must not be above the age parameter for this category on August 31st 2020.
The students are invited to submit prose or poetry of their choice within the required word count of a maximum of 550 words or a maximum of 40 lines for poetry.
The Prize: All students who enter will receive a Certificate of Participation. The Rotary Club of Navan will also present Monetary Awards to the Local Club Winner and Runners up. The Club Winner then competes in the District Final. Winners of this Final will then go ahead to compete for the National Final Award.
All entries sent electronically must not exceed 15Mb.
The deadline date for all submissions to the Rotary Club of Navan for the Local Competition is January 31st 2021.
The Rotary Club of Navan abides by the Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy for Rotary Ireland (RIBI).
This venture has the potential of being a positive experience for participants because during these challenging times it is important for young people to take the time out to reflect on these positive moments and to be grateful for them.
